What we do starts with What we believe.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
People are doing the best that they can
Labels aren’t particularly helpful but recognizing patterns and the ways and places a person gets “stuck” can be
In order to help people get to where they want to be we need to pay attention to the brain, the mind, the body and how the person interacts with others
Our job is to help people recognize, and make changes to, their brains, minds, bodies and relationships in order to get them where they want to be
We use these beliefs as our framework in our care for every person who walks through our doors.
After an initial evaluation we decide together what treatment options are best. They may include: talk therapy, neurofeedback, mind-body work, parenting help, marriage therapy, referrals for supportive services or any combination of these. As we move forward in treatment we will continually adjust treatments to get you to “done” faster.
Most of us know that we carry stress in certain parts of our bodies or that stress causes many of our illnesses. Children are often unaware of their stress but it comes out behaviorally as anger, tears, short attention spans, sleep problems and stomachaches or headaches.
Our therapy often weaves in bodywork through teaching mindfulness, guided meditation, breathing techniques and heart-rate variability (HRV).
WHAT IS HEART-RATE VARIABILITY?
Simply put it is when your heart rate and your breathing match. It’s called coherence and it signals the brain that all is well. It results in lower stress and helps the body and brain to be more receptive to healing. Anyone can learn it with the help of some simple “games”.
What We OFFER
Here are some of the things we offer at Amend.
At Amend we have a “relaxation room” that can be used pre or post-treatment for playing the HRV games or using Muse.
- It’s best to allow 10-15 minutes either pre or post-treatment to get the most out of these trainings.
The room is first-come first-serve and there is no charge to use it. In fact, you don’t even have to be the “client”. If you are the spouse, parent, sibling or guardian of a client then please utilize our relaxation tools while your person is back with us.
